You'll find no building instructions here! As you can see, the photos are self-explanatory and building your own anemometer is truly a piece of cake.

Aquí no hay instrucciones detalladas de construcción! Como puede verse, las fotos son muy claras y construir tu propio anemómetro es verdaderamente fácil.

This is the way I started. I first sketched my idea with a 3D CAD software to find out some dimensions.

It starts spinning at a windspeed slower than 1 km/hr! (yes, ONE)

Comienza a girar con viento de menos de 1 km/hr! (sí, UNO)

I used a computer hard disk motor, three Kinder Easter Eggs, a compact disk, a plastic spool and a bike computer (a gift from my friend Juano Casaccione).

Usé un motor de disco rígido de computadora, tres huevos Kinder Sorpresa, un CD, un carretel de plástico y un velocímetro de bicicleta (regalo de mi amigo Juano Casaccione).

I cut the compact disk to make the three rotor arms and glued three Kinder eggs halves.

(WARNING: Choose the plastic ones to glue! You can later eat the chocolates...)

I also glued a little magnet under the rotor arms

Corté el CD para hacer los brazos del rotor y le pegué tres mitades de los huevos Kinder.

(ATENCION: Hay que pegar los de plástico! Después podés comerte los de chocolate...).

También pegué un pequeño imán bajo los brazos del rotor.

You must disassemble the little motor and take out the coils. I'm interested only in the ball bearings. There's also a ring magnet. It can be left in place, but I used a piece of  it to actuate de sensor.

Hay que desarmar el motorcito y quitar las bobinas del interior. Lo único que me interesa son los rodamientos. También hay un imán en anillo. Se puede dejar donde está, pero yo utilicé un trocito de él para activar el sensor.

You can use the bike computer's original sensor, but I instaled a small reed-switch (that is what the original sensor has inside).

Se puede usar el sensor original del velocímetro de bicicleta, pero yo usé un reed switch (que es lo que el sensor original tiene adentro).

The finished anemometer was calibrated going in a car (taking it far out the window) and controling the car speed with a GPS, and then adjusting the bike computer to read the right speed.

El anemómetro terminado fue calibrado yendo en auto (sacándolo lejos por la ventanilla) y controlando la velocidad con un GPS, y luego ajustando el velocímetro de bicicleta para que lea la velocidad correcta.

See a weird effect from shooting a photo while the rotor was spinning in a 30 km/hr wind.

Vean un efecto extraño al tomar una foto con el rotor girando en un viento de 30 km/hr.
